Tribute to Jackie Mittoo recorded at Sidedoor Records, Toronto, Canada 2018/19

For many years, as a guitarist originating from Jamaica, I have always been enamoured with the instrumental music of Jackie Mittoo. His work on the organ, tone and technique, helped originate the sound of reggae music we know today, especially that ‘bubble’ feel that gives roots rock reggae a distinct sound.

Over the years, I have always incorporated his music as part of my instrumental routine on stage to consistently positive reactions. I felt compelled to record this record as a tribute to Jackie’s incredible musicianship, incorporating my guitar playing for the melodies and leads and featuring Everton ‘Pablo’ Paul, one of Jackie’s original drummers from back in the day, and the esteemed Bruce Skerritt on the Hammond B3.

I hope listeners new and acquainted enjoy my renditions of Jackie’s music, this is a true passion project that I am overjoyed to share.

Shane ‘Shaky J’ Forrest is a Jamaican guitarist residing in Canada who remains active in the local music scene. Shane’s credits include co-producing and working with Ernest Ranglin, Derrick Morgan, Ken Boothe and General Trees. On the Canadian scene, Shaky has worked in studio and stages with Bill King, Dubmatix, Sonia Collymore, Arsenals Ska and many others. Currently Shane works as the resident engineer at Sidedoor Records located in Toronto, Canada.
